It's been, I dunno, 6 or 7 years since I was fully introduced to 'Disturbing' cinema, and it's been a little bit of a passion of mine ever since. I started with some of the worst stuff, and searched for a long time for anything worse. And I don't mean bad films, just ones that are more disturbing. I've had a look through a number of lists, and I think a lot of people are missing the point. So, I'll be taking a look at what I consider to be some truly disturbing films.
Side note, some of these films are either incredibly difficult to get a hold of, in their complete, uncut forms, or so terrible, I really don't want to own them, and I mean just terrible films. I have seen all of these previously, except August Underground's Mordum, but I will try to go in to these films with an open mind. I've also not included a few very, VERY underground films, like Melancholie der Engel and Cannibal (2006), because I can only watch so much s**t. Also, if I have the cut version of these films, I'M SORRY, I've tried, but some of them just don't exist in this country!
So, the list, in order of how disturbing I think they are, because, stupid lists:
10. Audition
9. I Spit On Your Grave (Original)
8. Visitor Q
7. Salo, Or The 120 Of Sodom
6. August Underground's Mordum (I know, it's a sequel, but it's supposed to be the worst)
5. AntiChrist
4. Cannibal Holocaust
3. The Human Centipede 2: Full Sequence (Yes, sequel, I will explain)
2. Martyrs
1. A Serbian Film
For anyone who has done some research, you might ask why I'm not covering titles like The Exorcist, Begotten or The Shining. The first and last of those titles simply don't hold up to the twisted cinema we have nowadays, and I don't feel deserve a place, even if both are fantastic films.
If you'd like, I'll do a quick review for Begotten right now!
Here, Begotten is a pile of absolute poop, the editing is so over the top that you can't actually see what's going on, the contrast has been whacked right up, there's no dialogue, there's no kind of narrative whatsoever. I gave up on this film 15 minutes in. It took me several minutes to realise I was looking at someone's stomach. Just no. I get artsy, but this is just taking things WAY too far.
Begotten is available on YouTube, for anyone who doesn't believe me, feel free to waste a few minutes of your life you will never get back, because I can't see how anyone would get through this entire film.
Happy? Fantastic.
The reviews will come in over the next weeks, please be patient!
