This is terrible. The end.
Okay, I'm joking, that's not the end of the review... But it is terrible. So, August Underground's Mordum is very similar to August Underground in that, it's a faux snuff film, made with basically nothing, with no plot, just horrific (I assume, because you can't really see anything) scenes of torture and death. It follows three twisted and depraved people as they humiliate, rape and murder people. Wow, yes, we're going there.
How does it look? Terrible (that's gonna be a very important word with this film). Its filmed on a digital camera, BADLY, with huge amounts of shaky cam, super up close shots of people's noses, and nowhere near enough light. Let's also tackle the sound, well, it's a digital camera. Come on guys.
Acting and scripting (if it exists) is... Wait for it... Terrible. Almost the entire film is the three main characters screaming abuse at each other. Every other word is swearing. No one in the world is like this! The characters are so annoying. All they do is scream, swear, and laugh like hyenas.
The gory scenes are really gory, it's mean spirited, it's nasty. And yet, August Underground's Mordum might actually be one of the most boring films I've ever seen. They should have called it August Underground's Boredom. For the 15 minutes of gore you get, you get an hour of incest, sex, and sitting around laughing at nothing, still being the most annoying people on earth, some more shouting and swearing, and boy is it dull.
August Underground's Mordum brings the viewer the age old question of 'disturbing or just disgusting'? It is most definitely the latter. There is vomit, lots of vomit. Then there's some more vomit. Then we might disembowel someone, and have sex with the wound. Then we might faff around for half an hour, and have some more vomit. Urgh.
I have got to give some praise for the special effects, because the estimated budget of this 'film' was $300, and the special effects were really realistic. You know it's a bad day when you have to praise a film's ability to make a guy cutting his penis off with nail scissors look realistic, over themes or substance.
Overall, August Underground's Mordum is a completely pointless piece of fiction. I understand the director wanted to make something realistic, to show that this is what real serial killers look like, but actually, real people don't act like that whatsoever, yes, even serial killers. This was the longest 77 minutes of my life.
Don't waste your time with this one. It's terrible.
1/10
Just to prove my point, I'm going to leave my notes written whilst watching the film at the end of this review, completely unedited, with swearing.
Urghhhhhhhhhhhhh
This is fucking terrible 5 minutes in
Digital, shaky camera
Super dark can't see shit
Swearing constantly
Incest
Gore effects are probably gonna be the only good thing
No plot
Straight into action though
Bad acting
Bad camera work
Bad scripting
Bad bad bad
Annoying as fuck characters
No point to it
Disgusting, not disturbing
And somehow STILL BORING AS FUCK
Too much vomit
Probably one of the most frustrating things ever
Make it stop
